Fern & Folklore
The online writing studio for women weaving their story into a legacy.
Gone are the days of fireside folklore.
Spooky tales of sorcery and shapeshifting to the tune of a fire spitting.
Yet such practices had a place: they brought people together.
Where do we go now to be present with our own stories and inspired by our community?
Too often, we’re left wondering what our wisdom is worth. And especially as we age, who would want it.
Still, telling our story is natural, beneficial, and utterly irresistable.
Fern & Folklore is a place to pen your story with guidance from an experienced writer and storyteller.
But it’s so much more than that.
It’s a space for interaction and connection, vision and imagination, contemplation and celebration with other wise women on the creative path.
A rare opportunity to recall the joy. To relive the learning. And to leave no words unsaid.
Summoning all artists, dreamers, creators, and word lovers…
(Recognise yourself in any of these? Welcome home!)
YOU DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START
Vision, pattern, and imagination come easily to you. You have a whole array of stories, ideas, and perspectives you’d love to share. But it’s hard to find a place to begin, an angle to explore, a theme that runs through everything. Then, every thread turns into ten more until you’re more and more confused than before!
You’re ready to pour this boundless creative essence into a container to piece together the themes, qualities, structure, and shape of your story.
YOU WISH YOU COULD WRITE MORE FREELY AND AUTHENTICALLY
‘Know thyself’ is the heart of your life’s mission. The revelations that arrive in the creative process feel essential to this journey of remembering who you are and contributing to the world. You’d love to craft a meaningful work of heart that feels creatively alive. Yet, your natural voice and cadence are buried under years of analysing your tone and perfecting your grammar.
You’re ready to let go to see where the streams of story carry you, why they keep calling you, and what they have to teach you.
YOU’RE TIRED OF SAYING YOU’LL MAKE TIME TO WRITE
There’s a huge fire inside you to get moving: to shape your story, make your mark, and leave your legacy. But when it’s time to show up and write, you prioritise anything else. The slot in your schedule is easily sucked away like quicksand, while perfectionism, doubt, and the same old stories tend to write off any progress almost as soon as it’s made.
You’re ready to build a solid, rooted, and devoted creative practice that lightens the load, tunes out the noise, and maintains forward momentum in your writing.
Fern & Folklore is your chance to move from “I’ll share that someday” to “Look what I wrote today!”
Take your place in this creative clearing to excavate the essence of your story, awaken your authentic voice, and ignite your creativity.
Hi, I’m Lauren.
I am what is referred to as an ‘old soul’.
Wise, sensitive, intuitive, and a tad rebellious!
Imagination was my first language.
As a child, I was shy and withdrawn, yet my inner world was rich, vibrant, and alive with possibililty.
Naturally, I immersed myself in the arts. I studied for a Master’s in Literature with a focus on the storytelling tradition.
I’ve taught English language, tutored academic writing, and built a copywriting business. You could say I trade in stories, as our ancestors once did.
There has never been a more important time to get our untold stories into the world.
Stories share the universal truth underlying our personal perception. They speak to unity, commonality, and the power of creativity.
All of which serve to remind us of our shared humanity.
“In the end, we’ll all become stories” - Margaret Atwood
I lost my best friend at the tender age of 12.
Thirty years later, I am back there again.
Except this time around, there is a chance to contemplate what this friend might leave behind.
Relished memories. Pieces of her personality.
Life lessons that hold her wisdom for when her boys inevitably ask, “Mom, what do I do now?!”
Love and loss bring perspective.
They highlight what is still important to do and pursue with the precious time we have.
Fern and Folklore is my own purpose project of pure, unbridled passion for women and their wisdom.
It’s a truly enchanting space to give your dreams and desires the attention and direction they deserve.
I know that you hold knowledge, experience, and perspective with the potential to enhance, and even enchant, the lives of others.
But more so, you have an obligation to the story seed inside of you.
To write it out. To let it become.
And to let it dance you into who you become.

VOICE DISCOVERY
Your writing style is shaped by the company you keep, the creativity you consume, and the ‘good practices’ you uphold. Yet, there is a version of your voice that existed before you learned what ‘good writing’ and ‘useful communication’ were.
Spending time with your own voice, and that of others, brings connection with a purer expression to reveal the true nature of your creativity.
CONFIDENCE BUILDING
Perhaps you were criticized for having poor grammar, you feel you have nothing significant to say, or you worry about being misunderstood.
Stripping back the pressure to perform allows your story take shape effortlessly. As you show yourself you can write, a new confidence in your abilities ignites courage to continue — and resilience in other areas too.
PATTERN MAPPING
Your stories are interconnected, and you are the glue. As you write, you reveal patterns and themes between your ideas and experiences.
You may more keenly understand your journey, the charge held by certain memories, and the character traits that make you who you are.
CONSCIOUS LIVING
Storytelling teaches the subtle art of noticing, which brings a deeper sense of presence, attention, and intention to your interactions with others and engagement with the world.
You start to appreciate the glimmers of magic and the abundance of joy in and around you.
IMAGINATION IGNITION
Stories breed stories. The more you nurture your imagination, the more inspiration finds you. The more inspiration finds you, the more wonder is expanded and expression liberated.
You begin to see yourself, your relationships, and your creativity through a lens of lightness and awe. A childlike curiosity and belief in your own potential can increase joy and connection.
HOLDING & HEALING
The opposite of depression is not joy, it’s expression. Stories, just like emotions, hold an energetic charge, which is neither positive or negative when the current is kept in flow.
Expressing the stories you hold in your memory honours your journey, heals your heart, and closes outdated chapters to reveal space for new perspectives and possibilities.
TESTIMONIALS
“Lauren is a gift. She gives you the time and thoughtful consideration very few others do.
Her in-depth knowledge of age old traditions of storytelling and the communication humans crave, means she opens up a magical way for you to express your message at a very deep level.”
SARAH WALTON
“Lauren helped me find the red thread - linking my background, career, passion, and strengths in a circle - and formed my unique story.
I've been a visual person all my life. I could revise and reformulate my own story 100 times, and it would never come close to how it is written now.”
LU CAI
“I felt seen and that inspired me to be more vocal. We go into a creative trance together, and I don't notice time passing.
I always leave feeling re-energized and with a strong sense of purpose.”

Writing a memoir is very different from writing an academic essay, newspaper column, or scientific journal!
There are fewer rules to follow and expectations to meet.
You’ll surprise yourself at how engaging, concise, and humorous you can be — and I’ll share a few story skills to elevate it all. -
Depending on where we are in the cycle, this is possible. Please send me an email to enquire.

This is an invaluable opportunity to join the dots and move past the blocks to shape your story.
